Display Option Tips

Many users of the Gospel Library don’t look at all of the options the Gospel Library offers. Here is a review of the Display Options.

Over the years, I have been amazed that many people are unfamiliar with an app’s complete user interface (UI). The UI is all of the icons, swipes, touch, and taps available to engage the user in all of the features of an app.

When I open a new app, I am on an adventure, I am touching, taping, swiping, and any other action I can think of; I want to know the capabilities of the app and if it will serve my purpose. I have discovered that I am in the minority in this regard. It appears only geeks find joy in exploring the possibilities of an app.

So today, I am going to review the Display Options. I direct your attention to the upper right corner of the Gospel Library app.

Apple

Open to any content, look at the upper right corner, tap on the ellipsis, then tap on Display Options.

For iPad users, open to any content, look at the upper right corner, and to the left of the ellipsis are two A’s. Tap on the A’s.

Android

Open to any content, look at the upper right corner, tap on the three verticle dots, then tap on Display Options.

Display Options

A window appears and is divided into four rows. In the top row, you can choose between two font styles – serif and sans-serif. Touch the two styles, and you will see the content change. Pick the one that makes it easier for you to read.

You can increase or decrease the font size to the right of the font style.

In the second row, you can change the theme of the content. I suggest you touch each one to find the theme that makes for comfortable reading. The white font on a black background is very handy in the evening when you are reading in bed and don’t want to disturb your spouse.

On the third row is a check box, and to the right, “Match System Theme.” If you want the Gospel Library theme to match your overall theme on your phone, tap on the box to add a checkmark. When you add a checkmark, you may not notice any change. That is because your theme for the Gospel Library is the same one you have set for your phone.

The last item in the window is “Show Footnotes.” Tap in the circle to turn this on and off. As you tap, look at the content and see if you can see the difference in the text.

You do not see a change as you tap? Then here is what to look for. Footnotes are the superscript letters in front of words that are included in the Related Content. Here are two examples:

With Footnotes:

And thus those 2 dissenters of the Nephites

Without Footnotes:

And thus those dissenters of the Nephites

Now tap on Show Footnotes, and you will notice that the Footnotes are turned on and off.

Please note that Display Options do not sync between your devices, so you must set your options for each device.

Now you are an expert on changing fonts, themes, and Footnotes. Now, you need to share what you learned with others.
