The Bible Dictionary

Try the Bible Dictionary if you need a quick read during a few quiet moments

The Gospel Library is a beautiful app. While it has its critics and those that wish it could do more, it is a powerful tool to enhance scripture study. In my conversation with members of the church, the mention of the Gospel Library immediately brings to mind the scriptures, but the library has some powerful tools to help us to look unto Him in every thought.

The Bible Dictionary is usually used when preparing a lesson or a talk, but I would like you to consider that it can be a place to turn to read when we have a few minutes waiting in line or in the doctor’s office, the endless times we are waiting in the car to pick up the children, capturing a few minutes during lunch or any time that we take a break from our various responsibilities.

Recently, someone told me that Daniel Ludlow remarked during a class at BYU Education Week that if one studied the Bible Dictionary that in the end, one would have the equivalent of a Ph.D. in biblical studies. While this is a powerful statement, I have not been able to find evidence that Ludlow ever made that comment, or any other church scholar, as a matter of fact.

However, I do believe there is power in using the Dictionary often and, as mentioned above, simply opening the dictionary and reading what is before you when you have a few free moments.

it is our responsibility to study and learn. “The Lord will not force you to learn,” said Richard G. Scott; he further remarked, “You must exercise your agency to authorize the Spirit to teach you.” Spending a few moments in the Dictionary can grant that authorization.

The Gospel Library is available any time we have a free moment to turn our hearts to learning doctrine and principles and apply what we learn in our lives. The Bible Dictionary is one of the many resources in the Gospel Library to help us stay focused on what is most important.

Do you have a free moment now? Open the Bible Dictionary and experience the joy of learning.
