Hastening the Lord’s Work & Technology

Let me say again: neither technology nor rapid change in or of itself is good or evil; the real challenge is to understand both within the context of the eternal plan of happiness. Elder David A. Bednar

The technology has been given to us to hasten the Lord’s work.

Elder David A. Bednar shared the following:

The Lord is hastening His work, and it is no coincidence that these powerful communication innovations and inventions are occurring in the dispensation of the fulness of times.

I believe the time has come for us as disciples of Christ to use these inspired tools appropriately and more effectively to testify …of Jesus Christ…and to accomplish the Lord’s work… (BYU Education Week, August 2014)

The Gospel Library is part of hastening his work as we, through studying of the scriptures, become better disciples of Christ. I am not suggesting that one needs technology to study the scriptures, but technology can certainly enhance our scripture study for those that make use of it.

Elder Christoffel Golden, Jr. said this about the Gospel Library:

The Church has dedicated significant effort to improve this app in order to support Church members as they seek to increase their Gospel learning and inspiration using mobile devices. We encourage members to use it to “enhance” (emphasis mine) their study and draw near to the Lord and His holy prophets. (Church News, June 25, 2013)

Notice the word “enhance.” I am not suggestion for one to give up their tried and true dead-tree-edition of the scriptures for a digital edition; the printed word has served the world for centuries, but rather use the Gospel Library with what one is already using to enhance, to enrich their scripture study.

The Library has wonderful features such as a Dictionary, Tags, Notes, Notebooks, and Links that can do what print copies of the scriptures can’t.

Perhaps I am preaching to the choir, but if you are not using the Gospel Library to enhance your scripture study, I encourage you to give it a try.

Let us follow the counsel as Elder Bednar gave a new group of Missionary Presidents:

Please do not fear technology. Please do not take counsel from your fears. Embrace these inspired tools.…” (Church News, July 6, 2016)
