Hastening His Work

We live in a miraculous age. Do we take the time to reflect on the ways we have been blessed and how we can hasten His work?

I think it is time for us to review a topic that I find most are unaware.

Technology has been given to us to hasten the Lord’s work; when we understand and adhere to that axiom, it changes our attitude, and we begin to use our electronic devices in a new way.

This concept of technology as a tool provided by Heavenly Father to hasten his work is not new.

Brigham Young said, “Every discovery in science and art, that is really true and useful to mankind has been given by direct revelation from God.”

Joseph Fielding Smith shared similar feelings, “I maintain that had there been no restoration of the gospel, and no organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there would have been no radio.”

While I am addressing the use of our mobile device, David A. Bednar expands the list, “We are blessed to live, learn, and serve in this most remarkable dispensation. An important aspect of the fulness that is available to us in this special season is a miraculous progression of innovations and inventions that have enabled and accelerated the work of salvation: from trains to telegraphs to radios to automobiles to airplanes to telephones to transistors to televisions to computers to satellite transmissions to the Internet—and to an almost endless list of technologies and tools that bless our lives. All of these advancements are part of the Lord hastening His work in the latter days.”

And for those that only use their mobile devices for phone calls and text messages, Elder Bednar admonished us to “. . .not fear technology. Please do not take counsel from your fears. Embrace these inspired tools. Learn to use them to proclaim the gospel.”

We need to take the time to reflect on how we use our mobile devices and computers.

Do you spend more time on social media or perusing the news than studying the scriptures?

How could you better use your mobile device to hasten his work?

I hope the few words I have shared will encourage you to consider how you use your device.
